Costa Brava Mediterranean Foods<\/em> has a long history of innovation, responsiveness and versatility. That means we share the values of increasingly-informed consumers, who are more aware of health issues.<\/p>\n

A team of experts, equipped with advanced research technology and microbiology laboratories, lead the search for new developments in products, packaging and processes. They follow market trends and guarantee the food safety, quality and standardisation of our products.
\nWe have expert partners working alongside us on this task: research clusters, such as INNOVACC<\/em>, and technological institutes, such as IRTA<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Our Frigor\u00edficos Costa Brava plant is taking part in the project to optimise and automate the cutting process for semi-frozen and frozen meat and meat derivatives. This involves a new automatic band saw design and the implementation of a micro-cutting disc to prevent workplace accidents and improve operator safety. This project comes under the programme of incentives for self-supply and storage, using renewable energy sources, and the implementation of renewable thermal systems in the residential sector, within the framework of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, financed by the European Union \u2013 NextGenerationEU. We are also involved in the food processing and marketing project of the \u201cCatalonia Rural Development Programme 2014-2020\u201d, co-financed by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development: Europe invests in rural areas. Frigor\u00edficos Costa Brava has received funding from ICAE for two major projects related to our energy saving and efficiency goal. We are committed to complying with all applicable legal requirements plus others that the organisation has signed up to: environmental protection, progressive reduction of waste generation, reducing the consumption of natural resources, continuous updating of the Environmental Policy and Programme, setting the objectives and goals of our Environmental Management System. We invest in continuous improvement of the company\u2019s sustainability, as we have recently done in the meat cutting line and in improving the efficiency of the croquette line. The project to improve the meat cutting line (File E4IN12\/2019\/84) received funding from IVACE and ERDF for its improvement in energy efficiency. Read more details.<\/a><\/p>\n

The croquette line was improved (File E4IDIN\/2019\/11) by replacing the vertical packaging machine with an automatic vertical packaging system on the line. This is a clear technical improvement to this process, which cuts the plant\u2019s consumption by more than 93,000 kWh\/year and avoids more than 33,000 kg of CO2 emissions per year. An energy saving and efficiency project has been created to replace a heat pump for office air-conditioning. This required the collaboration of the best equipment manufacturers in the sector and will provide major energy and environmental savings in the process. The project saves 12.12 TOE per year. We carried out an energy saving and efficiency project consisting of implementing a frequency inverter in the refrigeration compressors, saving an estimated 58.89 TOE\/year. We have also replaced the ventilation system in the A8 pork loin drying facility to achieve a cleaner and more sustainable economy, which enables us to save 10.61 TOE per year. We have received a grant for the energy saving and efficiency project \u201cImplementation of efficient technologies in a production process\u201d, co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), coordinated by IDAE and managed by the autonomous communities, through the National Energy Efficiency Fund, with the aim of achieving a cleaner and more sustainable economy. An energy saving and efficiency project has been created, consisting of implementing efficient technologies in the product slicing systems for production processes by replacing existing equipment with highly-efficient systems. This required the collaboration of the best equipment manufacturers in the sector and will provide major energy and environmental savings in the process. The project saves 37.96 TOE per year.
