We recently participated in the event \u201cDecarbonization in the Meat Industry\u201d, organized by Innovac (the Catalan Meat and Alternative Protein Cluster) and held within the framework of the Net Zero Tech<\/strong> forum in Barcelona. This forum, which brings together professionals from industry, energy efficiency, and renewable energy sectors every year, serves as a meeting point for continuing progress in industrial optimization and sustainability innovation.<\/p>\n

During the event, our Sustainability Coordinator, Joaqu\u00edn Navarro, shared real experiences, ongoing projects, and practical lessons learned that we have implemented at Costa Brava Mediterranean Foods to address the challenge of decarbonization, one of the pillars of our business and sustainability strategy. The event also included representatives from Matadero Frigor\u00edfico Aviny\u00f3 and LC PAPER 1881.<\/p>\n

Throughout the discussion, the efforts of the meat industry to respond to the challenge of reducing carbon dioxide (CO\u2082) emissions and other greenhouse gases \u2014 one of its main sustainability challenges \u2014 were highlighted. In this context, the importance of adopting a proactive approach to decarbonization was emphasized, through the implementation of measures aimed at process optimization, emissions reduction, and improved energy efficiency, as well as by setting realistic targets aligned with the objectives of the European Union.<\/p>\n

Joaqu\u00edn highlighted that: \u201cWe understand that when we talk about energy, we are not only talking about a production cost. We are talking about competitiveness, sustainability, business resilience, and our ability to continue growing in an increasingly complex and uncertain environment.\u201d<\/p>\n

Among the milestones achieved in this area are the procurement of 100% renewable electricity and investments in photovoltaic self-consumption installations at our facilities with the highest energy demand. As a result, approximately 6% of the energy we consume is now self-generated.<\/p>\n

The combination of certified renewable energy and our own photovoltaic generation has enabled us to make significant progress towards our climate objectives, resulting in a 50% reduction in our carbon footprint and associated emissions over the last five years.<\/p>\n

In this context, Costa Brava Mediterranean Foods has developed a strategy aligned with the Paris Agreement, under which we have set the goal of achieving net zero emissions by 2050. To this end, we systematically measure our emissions and have achieved a 50% reduction in Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions between 2021 and 2025. In addition, we are committed to the Lean & Green initiative, with the objective of reducing our emissions by a further 20% within five years.<\/p>\n
