Our Commitment to the Circular Economy

UNESCO officially declared May 17th as World Recycling Day, to raise awareness about the importance of reducing, reusing, and recycling waste as a way to protect the environment.

At Costa Brava Mediterranean Foods, we want to reaffirm our commitment to the circular economy by promoting the use of recycled and recyclable plastic in today’s society.

Our recycling solutions have been strict and diverse, focused on the 4R strategy: Reuse, Reduce, Recover, and Recycle. Our main measures includes the use of R-PET (recycled PET made from easily recyclable discarded materials), the reduction of plastic thickness (microns) in our packaging, waste segregation, through which we are able to properly and efficiently separate different types of discarded materials, the placement of recycling bins in all our plants and offices (we recycle plastic, paper, glass, and both organic and inorganic matter), the organization and coordination of waste collection, the reduction in plastic bag use and the improvement of our wastewater treatment processes, among many other initiative.

All of the above actions allowed us, in 2019, to generate a savings equivalent to 8 million plastic bags per year. This contributed to an estimated reduction of nearly 58,000 tons of CO₂, which we helped avoid during 2019, as part of the national meat industry’s total, by applying the savings measures outlined in our own Environmental Policy.

Let’s remember that recycling is not an obligation — it’s a necessity and a responsibility for all.
And you — do you recycle?
