OUR CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT PROJECTS
Costa Brava Mediterranean Foods has a long history of innovation, responsiveness and versatility. That means we share the values of increasingly-informed consumers, who are more aware of health issues.
A team of experts, equipped with advanced research technology and microbiology laboratories, lead the search for new developments in products, packaging and processes. They follow market trends and guarantee the food safety, quality and standardisation of our products.
We have expert partners working alongside us on this task: research clusters, such as INNOVACC, and technological institutes, such as IRTA.
Our Frigoríficos Costa Brava plant is taking part in the project to optimise and automate the cutting process for semi-frozen and frozen meat and meat derivatives. This involves a new automatic band saw design and the implementation of a micro-cutting disc to prevent workplace accidents and improve operator safety. The result is increased product quality, while improving productivity and the hygiene of the process. Click here for more information.
We took part in the OPTINVAS project and created pilot equipment for AI inspection to verify packaging quality. Other participants included Embutidos Caseros Collell S.L. (on behalf of Costa Brava Mediterranean Foods), Esteban Espuña SA, IA Sapiens Innovation SL, INNDEO, NAGRIFOOD and INNOVACC. Click here for more information.

One of our most recent projects was carried out by Coopecarn Girona, S.A., with funding from the Catalan Government and the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (EU) to develop a process to make LegHemoglobin and test its industrial viability for vegetable preparations. Project funded by Operation 16.01.01 (cooperation for innovation) of the Catalonia Rural Development Programme 2014-2020.Click here for more information.

Frescos y Elaborados Delisano, S.A.’s R&D department took part in the SMARTFARM project (File IDI-20210049). This is based on critical points analysis and strengthening comprehensive quality management systems in the food industry by developing a preventive detection model for Salmonella. This project was funded by the CDTI and co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF). The aim is to promote technological development, innovation and quality research.See more details.

Some of our new self-supply improvement projects have received grants from INSTITUTO DE DIVERSIFICACIÓN Y AHORRO DE LA ENERGÍA (IDAE) (Read more details), and INSTITUTO CATALÁN DE ENERGIA (ICAEN) (Read more details), co-financed by the European Union through the ERDF Operational Programme.
This project comes under the programme of incentives for self-supply and storage, using renewable energy sources, and the implementation of renewable thermal systems in the residential sector, within the framework of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, financed by the European Union – NextGenerationEU. See all the details here.
We are also involved in the food processing and marketing project of the “Catalonia Rural Development Programme 2014-2020”, co-financed by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development: Europe invests in rural areas. It is also co-financed by the Catalan Government Department of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Food. Read more details.
Frigoríficos Costa Brava has received funding from ICAE for two major projects related to our energy saving and efficiency goal. One of them is based on automating the multi-format packing and palletising system (read more details here) and the other involves automation of the palletising system for a phase three energy improvement (read more details here).
We invest in continuous improvement of the company’s sustainability, as we have recently done in the meat cutting line and in improving the efficiency of the croquette line. The project to improve the meat cutting line (File E4IN12/2019/84) received funding from IVACE and ERDF for its improvement in energy efficiency. Read more details.
The croquette line was improved (File E4IDIN/2019/11) by replacing the vertical packaging machine with an automatic vertical packaging system on the line. This is a clear technical improvement to this process, which cuts the plant’s consumption by more than 93,000 kWh/year and avoids more than 33,000 kg of CO2 emissions per year. Project supported with IDAE and IVACE funds, co-financed by the European Union as part of the ERDF Operational Programme. Read more details.
For our energy efficiency action to improve technology in industrial equipment and processes, we have received a grant for the project “Improvement of efficiency in the skin plus flow pack line” (File: E4IDIN/2019/230) with the aim of reducing energy consumption in the plant. Project supported with IDAE and IVACE funds, co-financed by the European Union as part of the ERDF Operational Programme.Find out all the information here.
We are continuing to work on improving the energy efficiency of technology in industrial equipment and processes and have received a grant for the project “Improving efficiency on line 11” (File: E4IDIN/2019/194) with the aim of reducing energy consumption in the plant by automating product packing. Project supported with IDAE and IVACE funds, co-financed by the European Union as part of the ERDF Operational Programme.Find out all the information here.
Frescos y Elaborados Delisano, SAU has received a grant for the self-supply project “Solar panels for self-consumption” (File: IDAUT2/2021/65) with the aim of achieving a cleaner and more sustainable economy. This project comes under the programme of incentives for self-supply and storage, using renewable energy sources, and the implementation of renewable thermal systems in the residential sector, within the framework of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, financed by the European Union – NextGenerationEU.Find out all the information here.
In the social field, our plant in Cheste (Frescos y Elaborados Delisano, S.A.) has received a €2,826.24 grant from LABORA, the Valencian Employment and Training Service, to promote the hiring of people with functional diversity.Further information
