At Costa Brava Mediterranean Foods, we are moving forward in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). We seek to help mitigate climate change, improve energy efficiency by reducing the consumption of natural resources, consolidate our circular economy model and reduce the use of plastics.

We seek to help mitigate climate change, improve energy efficiency by reducing the consumption of natural resources, consolidate our circular economy model and reduce the use of plastics.

At Costa Brava Mediterranean Foods, we are moving forward in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). We seek to help mitigate climate change, improve energy efficiency by reducing the consumption of natural resources, consolidate our circular economy model and reduce the use of plastics.

HOW WE DO IT

  • Since 2022, 100% of our energy has been green energy from renewable sources accredited through Guarantees of Origin (GdOs).
  • We monitor our impact across the entire value chain by measuring our Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions.
  • We take direct action to reduce logistics emissions through a Lean & Green work plan covering transport and finished goods warehousing, with a commitment to reduce these emissions by 20% over the five-year period from 2021 to 2026.
  • We align our decarbonisation targets with the international Science Based Targets initiative, SBTi.
  • We have external monitoring and verification systems in place that enable us to track our progress and independently verify the reductions we achieve. This includes ISO 14001 certification for environmental management across all our production sites.
  • We are increasing the Group’s energy self-sufficiency through photovoltaic panels.
  • We are committed to introducing efficient machinery with sustainable energy consumption levels.
  • We implement water recovery systems that allow us to reuse this resource in other day-to-day processes.
  • We optimise industrial refrigeration systems in our production facilities to improve the efficiency of cooling processes and refrigeration distribution, reducing energy losses, refrigerant leaks and emissions. We also optimise refrigeration equipment to ensure optimal performance and reduce energy consumption.
  • We adapt our processes so that production sequences allow us to optimise the operating times of lines, machinery, boilers and cold-storage chambers.
  • We reduce waste generation through process-efficiency measures and the optimisation of raw materials.
  • We minimise the generation of hazardous waste by strengthening control measures and replacing inputs with less harmful alternatives.
  • We direct our waste to sustainable end uses.
  • We redesign our packaging to reduce the thickness of trays and lidding films.
  • We use packaging that contains recycled plastic, mainly in trays.
  • We are committed to new forms of packaging that use less plastic, such as flat skin packaging.

  • We received the AECOC Lean & Green Award for our logistics emissions reduction plan and our commitment to reducing these emissions by up to 20% within five years.

  • Our own fleet of lorries is equipped with engines that comply with the Euro VI and Euro VI C standards, offering some of the highest levels of fuel efficiency and CO₂ emissions performance on the market.

  • We have a reverse osmosis plant at our largest facility, which enables us to treat and reuse water previously used to clean livestock pens and lorries.

  • Across the company, we reduced our consumption of natural resources between 2021 and 2025, achieving a 16% reduction in electricity consumption, a 40% reduction in gas consumption and a 19% reduction in water consumption.

  • We hold ZERO WASTE certification, recognising the Group’s high standard of performance in waste management.

  • We have reduced the use of plastic in our products by 19% from 2021 to 2025.

  • We use more than 50% recycled plastic across the Group.

  • Our sustainability practices have been recognised with the EcoVadis Gold Medal, awarded by one of the world’s leading platforms for assessing corporate sustainability performance. This places us among the top 5% of companies assessed worldwide.
