At Costa Brava Mediterranean Foods we continue to work every day to meet our target of 25% plastic reduction between 2019-2025. To reduce the amount of plastic used, in the Group, we redesign packaging and trays so that they fulfil their function with less plastic (with a reduction in microns, heights, widths…), we use more recyclable and recycled plastics, and we reuse all trays and leftover plastics in our facilities.

For the moment, we are on the right track and ahead of expectations, as this year we are still above the targets set in the first instance (more than 15% reduction in grams of plastic used per kilogram of product).

In order to give you a better idea of what these changes mean, this year we have reduced the grams of plastic used per kilogram of product by 8%, which means that the equivalent of 125 million plastic bags or 23 million water bottles have been reduced in the market. In the last three years, the equivalent would be more than 200 million plastic bags or more than 40 bottles of water. Great news, isn’t it?
